I decided I needed a place to vent and/or to celebrate about writing. I'm a Wordsmith: stories, novels, poems, religious statements, political commentaries. I Post on writing: how to-venting-updates on my writing, and on anything I'm excited about. I will also be posting a story or three. And I review on books and /or writers I'm reading and anything else that might strike my fancy such as concerts I've been to, adventure dreams I recall etc..

Short story serial: Roller Coaster Ride a Science Fiction adventure tale. Number 1
For those who may not know Google Plus has various communities. One allows us to write and post stories and excerpts every Saturday. I just started a short serial I thought I would share with a wider audience. I decided to use a story I write when I first started writing seriously, some where around seven years ago, and revise it with what I have learned about the craft of writing since. Starting this Saturday I will be posting segments of my story Roller Coaster Ride. Each Saturday for three or four weeks depending on what I add during the revision I will post a segment here on my blog.
This story is straight up Science Fiction. I must confess though that while this revision improves the story and readability it didn't turn out as well as I had thought it would. Still though it has plenty of action and fun for the reader.
This week's part is just short of 1800 words long.
Two pals have an adventure while they haul two important cargos. Seems like a group of pirates didn't get the memo that the cargos were suppose to be secret with a last minute change of dates:
Unusual Rollar Coaster Ride
By L. E. Doggett
Looking like a fox on the run, the little ship quested the top side of the extensive ship fragment. Decks opened to space could be seen, fiber optic cables hung out in places, while personal belongings floated around inside and outside. Jonathan and Mantee, the only people on board, fled on the middle of a debris field many kilometers long and wide.
Their ship, the Cruising Ant, consisted of a hull close to the shape of a human thumb with two sets of wings: one smaller toward the rear and one close to the bow a third the size of the Ant. Its nose contrasted to a size where the two occupants sat close enough together to touch elbows, if they turned too fast.
The Ant with Jonathan the owner, not at the controls, sprinted along the top of drifting piece of hull five times its size. Mantee drove the ship down, from their prospective, the far side, in an urgent attempt to loose the larger ships chasing it. It dropped nose first for a few seconds. At the point where it reached the bottom of another huge fragment, Mantee curved it under that piece. As it came out from that piece’s shadow Mantee titled its nose upward and zoomed almost straight up along another broken ship. This one looked only five and half decks high and twice as wide as the Ant was long. Both Jonathan and Mantee could see straight though eight of those ten decks. Bodies as well as parts of equipment drifted around.
As soon as its nose topped that smaller fragment the Ant leveled off and zoomed forward for six-seconds. Mantee finally sent in into a dive under a large shiny cylinder with a small bulge at one end and what looked like a twisted broken end at the other. Mantee mumbled something about going back to get that power converter after they lost whoever was chasing them. The cylinder was spinning slowly toward the smaller fragment they had just come from.
Suddenly he pulled the nose up as again. This time at a much lower angle. The Ant went up and over a wrecked ship. This one whole. It looked only four times the size of the small one currently on the desperate ride. The two pilots could easily see slices that had been cut in it as well as holes that had been blasted into it. As soon as they cleared the halfway point across the top of the ship Mantee aimed the little craft down at the same shallow angle he had gone up. However as soon as they were down past that ship they abruptly executed a curve to port. Small explosions peppered the space where they had been going. Mantee managed, “Those guys are good.”
Mantee bumped Jonathan again when he reached for a control to have the Ant slide sideways. Even though neither carried much extra weight the cockpit was a tight space. Jonathan at six, four had to almost duck to get in either seat. Mantee four inches shorter didn’t but with his wider shoulders, he was the one to hit Jonathan. After all the control panel was a V shape affair with two seats, one on either side of the inside point of the V. It fit the shape of the bow of the Ant. The end of the nose was three feet wide, with a height of three feet.
Jonathan said, “We may have to fire back at them, to get their attention.”
Mantee frowned but saved his energy for the race. The Ant was armed: from his spot he could almost see the four thin round barrels set in two rows along the top of the nose. Two thinner, outside barrels began just under the view window. However the lasers and tiny grassers didn’t have a lot of power. Like the ship’s wings they were not just for show as on some ships. This craft was capable of atmospheric flight and was able to land on most surfaces. And the weapons could do damage even though not a lot.
He took a moment to wonder if those guys were after the cargo which sat behind him in the runabout’s cargo space. He shrugged the Ant was a bit small for a true runabout but Jonathan liked to call it that anyway.
At the moment there were only three small trunks strapped down in the cargo area. Two were identical, three feet long, two feet wide and two deep, brown colored with blue trim and the same logo at each end. They carried their main cargo. The third was larger, a foot longer and a foot deeper: old and beaten with faded reds and blacks, it contained items that Jonathan had decided to take along since there was room.
In the back of this area was a wall that had two doors. One was to the head and one was what passed for engineering in this tiny craft. It was the size of a large closet. On both sides of the two doors were two small cabinet doors right in the middle of the wall. They were about two and a half feet long and two feet tall. They enabled the crew to get to more circuits. One tray pulled out to be the kitchen. A tiny microwave, a tiny toaster even, a very small burner and a sink.
The whole craft had been painted a light reddish brown with the aft end being black. There was a thick three foot long deep blue stripe on each side starting at the tip of the nose. The floor was covered with a greenish padded material. The walls were mostly unadorned and were painted a medium gray color. The doors were a very deep gray. The seats were a dark red.
Both had worked together as a team for years. Jonathan who stood at six Ft three inches tall with an above average build and medium length reddish hair usually was the pilot. This time around Mantee, who was four inches shorter with wider shoulders and an otherwise stockier build, happened to be piloting when they had been attacked. Mantee had the same red hair as Jonathan even though he wore it longer. He also had a mustache while Jonathan was clean shaven. Currently Jonathan was doing Mantee’s jobs. Which included adjusting the fuel to the engines, watching and watching sensors while using the comm. He also had controls to fix certain problems with the drives, the power plant or any other mechanisms. He was additionally in charge of the weapons and shielding.
This trip had started as an easy job. They were supposed to haul two very important items to a certain space station. Each was important for different reasons. One was an accord that had been reached by two warring factions. The negotiating teams had been at a secret location for quite a while and had finally reached an agreement. Jonathan had taken the job to deliver the accords to representatives of both governments; he was well known and trusted by both sides. Mantee thought that those chasing them might want them to either stop the peace or to hold the accords for ransom.
On the other hand they might want the other item, a religious icon. It was made out of precious metals worth a lot of money by themselves even though it was worth much more to the religion. It had gone missing ages ago and had recently been found. Someone could want it for the materials or to hold it for ransom. The two identified teams, who were after them usually didn’t go in for that type of thing though. Well, the privateers usually acted like pirates but they went after certain groups only. Jonathan therefore Mantee didn’t belong to any of their usual targets. He mentally shrugged as he thought this though. Maybe they were branching out.
Jonathan had contracted for a date for both objects to be delivered. The date, a couple of weeks in the future, was far enough away so Jonathan had decided to overhaul his freighter’s drives. However yesterday the representatives of those who hired him came by to say that the date had been moved up. It turned out that their security protocols demanded that the time table for top security items be changed after the date was set. He had been told it that even though it could have been any date from three weeks earlier to a few days after the original date, two weeks earlier had been chosen. That was today or yesterday. It was either take the small runabout or lose the contract and probably the next one. It would also mean that the accords would not get to the representatives when they were expected. That could mean they would be refused. Jonathan had no choice but to go. Mantee came by about then so he was drafted to come along. Now he wondered about his bad timing. Jonathan said had been assured that the mission was very top secret and that the moving of the date would make it even more secure. An added security measure had been to change the delivery point as well as the date. It was a different location now. Now it was an outpost closer then the original one which ended up working in their favor. Which was good since they had to use the Cruising Ant, Jonathan’s spare ship. It could go FTL but had little room for supplies.
Every thing had gone smoothly during the first part of the trip so they decided to change places. Mantee excepted that Jonathan was by far the better pilot and usually piloted everything-both were his ships after all. Mantee even though no slouch at piloting needed practice at different controls. He decided that since this would be an easy trip he would get some practice in. Jonathan after coming back from a visit to
the head found Mantee in the pilot’s seat. After some quick words by Mantee Jonathan agreed that it was a good time for Mantee to pilot the runabout. He sat down in the other seat. Soon after that they had detected the ships now after them. They had come out of no where and were headed straight for them. Mantee, who had known that a battle had taken place nearby four or five days ago, headed toward it as a precaution. The battle had involved humans from one Federation as well as a race called the Zoonu along with some from one or two other races who lived among both. It had gone on for days and had involved some very large ships by the look of the wreckage.

Comments and real criticisms are okay.
Probably shouldn't say this here but in my hurry with this I didn't get the opening like I wanted. I realized afterward when it was posted everywhere that oops, I had forgotten some detail on the setting.
next segments should be better

Writing updateFeb '16-coming books, what I have been up to
Haven’t done one of these in months but I need to catch up here with any readers I have.
Still writing. I have four books that need revising I am not sure when. I started two, the other two will have to sit even longer. I want to do one called the “The Courier” about a young woman who lives in a steampunk world set in our time. No internet so they have couriers who carry anything from contracts, love letters, gold, new inventions-small enough to fit in a pouch-books, to anything else people may want to send and not want to use the Post Office for one reason or another. Some of the cases are dangerous-this one is her most threatening and she will have to use all of her brains, contacts, friends, and sneakiness to come out of this one alive. Then there is The Mystery Quest or Unknown Quest or ??? I have revised this Fantasy-steampunk novel once but it could use a bit more work and I need to add some characters sooner. I came up with them half way through the book.
I am pretty much finished revising “Learning CurveX2” Where NA the hero of “Above My Pay Grade” learns some lessons on being a friend and having more power. She also gets to fight an insane Adept who thinks he is a demigod plus solve a mystery of why are there so many mythos in Boulder all of a sudden. Some are very dangerous. What fun for her and any reader. I just need to rearrange some scenes and a chapter or three. Plus find an editor. I asked the person who did Above but don’t know yet if she can. Many of you may not know who NA is and what she is but you can find out—hint hint,
I am in the middle of doing a story-actually redoing a story-for Writers of the Future. I wrote it a couple of years ago and still like it very much. The setting is unique even though the plot isn’t so much but hopefully I can put my own twist to it.
I have written as story I hope they like at Urban Fantasy magazine but I still need to revise it. I have Rod story to finish and to add to my list. Look for Rod’s tales on the top list of buttons. They are an exciting series of short stories-including flash and micro-about a certain young mage named Rod.
I have written something like 11 or 12 600 word stories for a weekly writing lesson on a community on Google+. They show a picture that you are suppose to use for a premise for your story. I plan to do somewhere around 22 of them and place them in a book. However some hopefully won’t be there because they are in other markets. Oh they were all 600 when I submitted them. But I revised a few and all of those are over now. Sometimes by a couple of thousand words.
Sold a few of my two books but could use more sells—hint hint again. Both are quality tales and fun for readers.
I am working on a new author's page on Amazon but because of a mistake I made I have two so am working on that.
Here are links to my two books on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The E-versions are also on iTunes and Kobo. Plus a one or three other sites.

My E-books on a New Years sale: Great adventure and fun for readers.
Tommy Tuckernocker: Shadow Warrior 56,000 words.
A steampunk special ops fusion set on a slightly different Earth. Much fun for readers.
Remember books make great gifts even paper ones even though mine are at the usual prices. But still this one's paper version price isn't bad, at $11.99
But the E-version is $3.50 until Jan 5 '16. It's a great action packed tale of Tommy Tuckernocker who has decided to protect his country from those who want to take it over by force. He sneaks into factories, is chased in an airship, and on the ground, deals with a bank robbery back home and has to find a traitor, while he learns how to command men and women who may die because he makes a mistake.
A different twist on an old tale-ish.

Format: Paperback
I have to start off by saying I am normally not a big fan of reading first person books. There have been plenty of times when I simply put the book down and walked away. I didn't have that problem with LE Doggett's Above my Pay Grade. The very concept that mages- in uniform no less- could exist within the everyday, modern world right under our noses is interesting enough to have made me continue through to the end. The author's familiarity with the location added depth and characterization that can be seen in Robert Ludlum's novels, further enhancing the old adage of write what you know. This book was fast paced and laced with enough action to keep me wanting to read. I eagerly await the next novel (which he promised in the beginning) in this series. Good read.

Christian Freed
"While I don't profess to any knowledge of the steam punk genre I immediately felt comfortable after only a few pages of jumping into Louis Doggett's Tommy Tuckerknocker. Being a former soldier myself, I easily followed the flow and pacing of the story as Tommy took his team through a series of life and death situations that were not only action packed, but realistic in terms of how they play out. This book was not only enjoyable, but easily read. I found myself at the end much faster than I was prepared for. Kudos to Mr. Doggett for writing an enjoyable tale."

Time for my Christmas post for '15 Why Christmas: He is with us. He is love, the first step for grace
Time for my yearly post about what Christmas is all about. To new readers: I have done this for something like five years. I usually deal with the fact that Jesus being born was a sign that God is with Us. Not only Us as in all of humanity but Us as in individually. God the Creator of the universe is with us. That idea can create Hope in every situation. God can deal with and heal your situations, issues, hurts and actions. He is also there to hold you through it all too. Or to help you become an even better person.
Christmas is also a sign and is evidence of God’s love. That is Jesus’ birth was and still is a definite sign of the fact that God is love. Again not only humanity as a whole but you individually. No matter what hurts, hangups, habits you have. No matter what you have done or not done God the Creator loves you. All peoples groups, all races, all nationalities, all of us-yes, that last was redundant but there was a purpose to the redundancy. A solid point I wanted to make.
So Christmas-Jesus being born in a stable to a simple girl, placed in a manger, the shepherds, the angel announcement, the whole thing. There have been plenty of pictures, real displays, movie scenes that show this moment. It doesn’t matter if there was snow outside the stable or if, as some think, it was a cave or a very simple structure, the important thing is that He was born. And that not only is that moment being a show of God’s love and that it is God with us, as I stated already, but it was also the first step in God’s plan of Grace. He had to be born, had to grow up, had to teach and show miracles, had to have temptations and had to die and had to be resurrected so that we-as in you and me-can be forgiven and thereby can know God. Sin was a big problem and it had to be dealt with as in completely done away with in our lives. He showed we could not live up to a series of rituals and commandments, that our own efforts got us no closer to God. Yet He still loved us and to prove that love He sent His only Begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish-should not die separated from God. He also showed His great love toward us in that while we were yet sinners God sent Jesus to die for us. That is the part of the Christmas story that is Love. God Sent us His Son, born of a woman. That is Love! That is why we rejoice over Christmas; not only is God with us in a way He hadn’t been before, not only does it show His Love for all of us but it is His gift to us. Grace is unmerited favor-we don’t earn it or deserve it. We are saved by grace so that no one can boost. That is why Joy and Peace are a part of Christmas as well as love-hope should be too for Jesus is the hope creator. Noel is another word for Christmas and could come from a word that meant birth. It has become a short way to say celebrate Jesus was born.
As with any gift we have to receive it. God still allows the free will He made us with, so it is your choice to receive it or not. Good things come with receiving it: most important total forgiveness of your sins-they are done away with-but also healing of hurts, hangups and habits, plus Joy so good it is unspeakable and peace that passes understanding and a love that is terrific. Yes, there are changes which can be rough but over all it is definitely worth it.
If you choose it, tell God, tell someone else, read the Bible. Just talk to God as you would anyone you know. He knows you need it and He knows your pains and hurts and your sins so agree with Him-say it. He understands pain, plain talk and if you are not totally sure about this.
To explain more about Christmas here is a link to what was Billy Graham’s Advent Devotional week one. This was back from Nov 29, there are now two more weeks of devotionals.
And these steps to salvation, Here with two buttons at the bottom for more information.

A series of Healthy Relationship messages from my pastor
Bill Chaney did a series of sermons titled "Health Relationships" based on the Fruit of the Spirit.
For those who don't know the Fruit is produced in us by the Holy Spirit-He does the hard work produce it in our lives from the inside out. The Fruit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith-faithfulness. Each message uses one, sometimes two of these to show how to have a healthy relationship with others. Much of the emphasis is on marriage but other type of relationships are included too.
If you are having problems with a relationship or just want to make one even better try these podcasts. The Bible does have much to say about such things, using a understanding of what makes people tick and how to deal with it.
These are presented with humor, common sense, the Bible, and even some personal experiences by Bill. They start with Love and go on, touching many issues of a relationship.
There are outlines you can download with each message. They have the basic outline but with places for you to fill in too.
So enjoy and learn:

Nano update Thursday Nov 12
I got carried away the other night, went to bed a bit late because of it. I was typing along during a fight scene for my MC when I happened to glance up at the clock on my computer. Whoa, late and I hadn’t gone online yet. So I just shut down the writing, figured I had gone over the revised-downward-amount I wanted to do for the day. But it was late so I didn’t check how many words. Just did and I almost got to my original goal for the day. That’s like a thousand words I did while being carried away. The fight scene isn’t that long but it’s last four to six hundred words.
So at the moment I am ahead of the word count NaNo says we should have done by this time. Saturday was good too, I went past my goal a bit which caught me up and now this. Good. :)
So my MC is being set up for her big “run” which will probably take up the last third of the book. At least for NaNo. Once I am down I will be revising it and lengthing it so I will probable have her do one or more others runs. BTW “runs” or “a run”is what I decided to call it when she does her courier thing. It could be two hours or week or more depending if the delivery is in town or across country. She hasn’t done any out country yet but she knows Couriers who have.
Speaking of revising: the way I write I go back and do some revising as I go. I remember something I wanted to add but forgot at the time or I decide what I said could have been done better. Usually only a page or ten but at times I have gone back half way through the book. I haven’t gone more than four pages with this one but it could happen.
I am having fun coming up with scenes and events and showing her personality. I have said before I don’t do an outline even though I may have some scenes in mind I need to plug in somewhere. The fight scene was thought up when I got to it. It hadn’t even entered my mind to do something like that-my MC is helping another courier who was attacked by a gang-but I wanted a danger scene in this chapter and this fits. It’s the second chapter which will end after the fight scene.
It's set in our time if I can figure out how to include some references to our recent past. Like WWII and the Cold War.
There is not internet, no cell phones even though I seem to have included electricity. Every vehicle is steam powered and they only have airships.
Some 20,400 words plus what I did today so close to 21,000 words so far.

My NaNoWriMo novel of 2015--more on what that means in post
Been way too long since I have done a post here. I keep thinking about it but never get to it. Yikes.
Anyway, just wanted to say to you all that I am doing Nanowrimo this year. National Novel Writing Month. They have done this every November for many years. They want everyone to do a novel 50,000 words-which is really very short for a novel. Any type, including personal. Do it down and dirty during the month. Clean up of grammar and phrasing can be done the next month. Some of the novels have been published and pro writers with many published books take part.
Kinda of late if any of you want to do it for you need to sign in by Saturday-Oct 31st-Midnight. But I decided to do it again, I have done five books through this. Last years is the next adventure of NA hero of my "Above My Pay GradeX2" an Indie published book available in E-book and paper version-great adventure, action, suspense and fun for the reader if I say so my self plus three other people.
Anyway I will be doing a steampunk adventure tale about a courier in our time yet steampunk tech world. She is young, untried even though she has done this for a year or so. There will be adventure, chases of various types, action, hopefully suspense and humor.
It will be fun and work and my time here and writing other stuff will be lowered. I will still work on my serial here on G+ check out #journeyofmystery and I want to get one certain story ready to send to Beneath Ceaseless Skies. I am half way done with that. Maybe finish it tomorrow but I also want to work on that serial. If I work long enough I might finish the writing part. I am placing revised sections on the serial each week and I am behind with that. Which means even when I finish the story I will have at least another month of Saturdays to post before I finish the tale on G+.
Anyway I am a seat of the pants guy so I don't know much about what will happen in my NaNo novel this year. I have in mind two or three scenes but I will have to figure out where they go. This means I don't do outlines and plotting papers as some writers do. It would be helpful if I wrote down the names of the characters-I know of-before I start but that's about it for my planning.
Oh yes I had hoped to have last years Nano novel ready to Indie publish next month but it ain't going to happen. If I take a week off for Thanksgiving maybe the next month Jan '16. If I don't it could be another three months after that.
Two of my pervious novels are still waiting revising and lengthen. I worked on one for a chapter or two and that's it for both. A project for next year.
If you do decide last minute to do it go to the web site they have many helps and you can sign up and find out about online and live local groups that can help you.

My Books "Tommy Tuckernocker" which is now live, and "Above My Pay Grade" on sale. $3.99 each E-book
I decided since this is the weekend of the Fourth to keep my brand new "Tommy Tuckernocker: Shadow Warrior" a 58,000 word steampunk-special ops action packed adventure on sale for $3.99. On the 6th it will go to what will be its normal price of $5.99 for the E-book. A paper version will be out very soon for $11.99.
Now live at Barnes & Noble and at Amazon and at iTunes, Kobo and other sites.
The story is about Tommy Tuckernocker, a brand new team leader who works for the Ministry of Shadow Warriors and Clandestine Affairs to protect his homeland New Devon. The setting is Steampunk with airships, steamcars and unique weapons. Good action along with Tommy's doubts chases, running battles, bank robberies, and a mother who wants to play matchmaker.
At the same time My older e-book "Above My Pay GradeX2" is also on sell for the Fourth. To be honest I hadn't thought of putting it on sale but I discovered I forgot to raise the price after the last sale. So it will be $3.99 a bit longer until the sixth. Usually price is $6.99 for E-version. $20.99 for trade size paper version.
This book has 96,000 words and contains a tale of adventure, action, mythical creatures, a Hero with doubt and a ton of emotional baggage-some of which fights back when she tries told real with it. Fun for the reader.
At Amazon and Barnes&Noble Plus iTunes, Kobo and other sites.
